Villa Finale is the premier house museum in San Antonio.  Located in the heart of King William – the first historic district in Texas – Villa Finale tells the story of preservation and the vision of Walter Mathis.  Mathis was a preservationist who not only saved an historic house – he saved a neighborhood, singlehandedly restoring a dozen homes and convincing many others to restore the treasures of this central city paradise – tree-lined streets of homes both grand and simple, set along a bend in the San Antonio River just south of downtown.

Villa Finale is more than a 19th century house – it is a museum of Walter Mathis’ collections of artwork, books, furniture and more.  Today it is the host to a great variety of events celebrating history, culture, the arts and a community that believes in heritage conservation.  I was excited to attend the opening of Villa Finale in 2010 in my role as a Trustee of the National Trust and I am more excited in 2025 to take the helm of this amazing site.
